Review: Hammond’s Ice Cream, Point Loma
Confession: I’m mildly lactose intolerant. So when I was invited to the grand opening party for Hammond’s Ice Cream in Point Loma, I was torn. Would it be worth the pain?
Imagine my delight when I realized they had mini ice cream flights. Seriously, how adorable is this tiny cone?
We were able to try 6 different flavors — my favorite by far being the mint & cookies. When I cheat and have ice cream, I’m always left deciding between mint chip and cookies and cream. This was the best of both worlds! Plus, the small portions meant no pain for me.
The other five flavors we tried were the peanut butter and guava jelly, brown sugar salted caramel, lavender cream, blueberry cheese cake and Thai tea. Here’s what they looked like:
I loved that Hammond’s Ice Cream has so many different options. We were able to make our own unique flight with a mix of traditional and unexpected flavors. I mean…lavender? Thai tea? These were flavors I’d never try normally, but since I knew I was getting six small cones, I was willing to risk it.
I ended up liking everything we ate; I’d never order a full-size cone of lavender, but it was interesting to try in a small dose. And now I can say I’ve had lavender ice cream. My only complaint was with the peanut butter & guava jelly. The peanut butter flavor was delicious — but there wasn’t any guava jelly in our cone! If there had been, that might have been my favorite flavor of the night.
I was so excited to run into Lynn and Dennis from Oh-So Yummy at this event. Lynn was the first food blogger I ever met in San Diego, so it’s always fun to see her. Here’s a look at their gorgeous flight:
For people like me who don’t want a giant, messy ice cream cone — or who can’t commit to just one flavor — Hammond’s Ice Cream is an excellent option.
